We did a deminstration for a few other public work personal from different cities from through out the San Mateo County.
This was a great micro event, for us to work from between Earth Day & Arbor day, to complete this contract.
We milled Elm logs most where over 30 inches in diamater. The need that was meet use to product a minimum of 22 6x6 5 foot long to be used in the future in the parts as ballards We producted over 60 of these at a saving of thousands of dollars. We also produced 2x10 to 2x16 planks then as well a good number of 1 inch lumber.

President Reagan say's tree cause more pollution than autos Ronald Reagans infamous claim that “trees cause more pollution than automobiles” contained a grain of truth.Over its lifetime a tree shifts from being a vacuum cleaner for atmospheric carbon to an emitter.A tree absorbs roughly 1500 pounds of co2 in its first 55 years. After that its growth slows and it takes in less carbon. Left untouched, it ultimately rots and burns and that co2 gets released into the atmosphere, unless we recycle it and use it for something like constructing buildings or furniture , before it rots or burns.

Rethinking What It Means To Be Green Heart of The Matter / Sacred Heart High School
Your carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases your lifestyle produces. How big is yours? Sacred Heart is looking for ways to make its footprint smaller in very innovative ways.
One who visits the Sacred Heart campus anytime soon will notice there is a very large construction project that is taking place across from McGanney Gymnasium. Construction began in June 2008 for a new Science and student Life Center for Sacred Heart Prep, the first “green” building to be built on our campus. Slated for completion by August 2009, this building will include science labs, an auditorium with seating for 700 people, office space, and a cafeteria. The building is considered green not only because it is energy efficient, but some of the building materials will come right from our campus.
Every summer, trees on the 64-acre campus in Atherton are removed due to disease and poor condition. Cutting down trees is never an easy decision to make. If recommended due to illness or poor condition, the decision is a little easier. What made it even easier this summer was the option to recycle those trees for use on the Sacred Heart campus.
Instead of spending the money to have the trees cut into firewood or hauled off campus to a landfill, Sacred Heart put that money into having Woodfirst Sustainable Enterprises mill the trees into lumber and mulch on-site as they were being taken down. The resulting lumber will be used in future projects on campus, like constructing the science building and its furniture; the resulting mulch will help maintain the gardens of our beautiful landscaping. The cost savings comes into play when purchasing that same lumber and mulch else where, which could run as much as three times more than milling it on-site.
Wood first Sustainable Enterprises is a company that travels the West Coast milling logs to lumber on-site for governmental agencies, private landowners, general contractors, architects, and know Sacred Heart. Not only does it model goo |
Life cycle utilization.

Matt Harper Benefit The benefit was at the Klamath Yacht Club located at 2700 Front St., Klamath Falls, Oregon 97601 and was to help defray expenses due to a hunting accident injury. Eight months prior, Matt was hunting with a friend and his friend\'s dog jumped on a rifle, which discharged and shot Matt through the arm and side. He was rushed to the hospital in Portland for reconstructive surgery. Months later, they found a bone marrow donor.
Woodfirst donated a bench made from the white fir tree that was dead standing and removed from the front of XL Cleaners, Matt Harper\'s store. Woodfirst also built a bench in front of the store when we first heard about this injury, so he had a place to sit and reflect on what his plans would be for the future.
The Benefit was a success. There was a show of community support to assist this young man get through this ordeal. If you want to donate funds please do so at South Valley Bank Account #830607076 - The Matt Harper Benefit Account. Questions? Call Stefanie McVey at (541) 882 3281. |

Production of renewable energy and other value added productions from biomass is emerging as an industry with major potential for rural economic development in California.
Sessions leaders will focus on the need and proposed criteria for a revolving loan fund and or tax incentives to help project developers with limited resources for small scale systems cover the coast and prepare feasibility studies for biomass conversion prejects.
At this session I spoke about the issues of logistic and economics issues associated with diverse feedstocks from Agriculture, Forest & Urban residues, and the most cost effitive methods of disposal that meet air & water quality compliance regulations.
